Computer Acceptable Use Policy
The company has set out a policy that outlines the acceptable and unacceptable use of company computers and telephones for business and personal use. The company is liable for the unlawful actions of employees resulting from the misuse of company computers. In addition, the increasing incidence of computer viruses and hacking (from the Internet and other external sources) compels the company to act.
The policy is intended to promote responsible use of computers. Safe computing is a collective responsibility. Department Managers are responsible for ensuring compliance within the department, communicating the policy and procedure to users and for communicating changes in the policy. IT Managers are responsible for ensuring that IT systems are not used for illegal purposes.
Failure to comply with the procedure could result in the suspension of user accounts or other associated privileges. Disciplinary action, including dismissal, will be taken against any individual user who exposes the company to serious security risk or breach of confidence or who persistently breaches the rules.
